Philips TV remote not working? Fix it or use your iPhone
Philips televisions run Android TV, Google TV or Philips' own Saphi system, depending on the model and the year. The remote fixes overlap; what happens when you reach for a phone does not.
Quick fixes
- Batteries first. Philips remotes with a keyboard on the back eat them faster than you'd expect.
- If it's a Bluetooth remote — the ones with a microphone — re-pair by holding the record and mute buttons together for about five seconds near the TV.
- Unplug the TV at the wall for a full minute. On Android TV Philips sets this clears input faults that survive a normal restart.
- On an IR remote, wipe the emitter and make sure the Ambilight glow isn't the only thing you're aiming at — the receiver is behind the lower bezel.
Philips is unusually open to phones
Philips built a control interface into its TVs called JointSpace, reachable on port 1925 or, on newer sets, over TLS on 1926. On a great many models it accepts commands without any pairing at all — no code, no prompt, no account. Recent Android TV models added a digest handshake, and LazyBinger tells you when yours needs one rather than failing silently.
So on an older or mid-range Philips, a lost remote can be a five-second problem: open the app, tap the TV, done.
Where the physical button is
Most Philips sets put a small joystick or a single button underneath the panel at the bottom centre, behind the logo. On some Ambilight models it's on the back near the lower-right corner. Hold it to power on.
