Samsung TV remote not working? Control your TV from your iPhone
A Samsung remote that won't respond is usually a two-minute fix — but if it's broken or lost for good, your iPhone can take over completely. Here's both. LazyBinger talks to the TV over Wi-Fi, so the physical remote becomes optional.
Quick fixes for a Samsung remote
- Replace the batteries — or charge a Solar Cell remote over USB-C for 30 minutes.
- Re-pair a Bluetooth Smart remote: hold Return and Play/Pause together for about 5 seconds, pointed at the TV.
- Power-cycle the TV: unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
- On older IR remotes, clear the line of sight and wipe the front emitter.
Or skip the remote: use your iPhone
Samsung TVs run Tizen, which LazyBinger detects automatically on your Wi-Fi — no IP address, no pairing button. You get a full D-pad, volume, play/pause and power, plus one-tap streaming apps. If the remote is gone for good, this is a permanent replacement, not a stopgap.
Set up in under a minute
- Open LazyBinger — it scans your Wi-Fi for the TV.
- Tap your Samsung TV when it appears.
- The first time, accept the one-time “Allow” prompt on the TV. That's it.
Frequently asked
Can I use my phone if the Samsung remote is lost? Yes — control runs over Wi-Fi, so you don't need the physical remote at all (set it up while the remote still works at least once, to clear the first “Allow” prompt).
Do I need a Samsung account or SmartThings? No — LazyBinger talks to the TV directly on your network, no account.
Will it turn the TV on too? On most models, yes — see turning your TV on from your phone.
